Yes, you can vacuum your home and dust off your furniture, shelves and so on every single day, yet the dust build up will still be back there with-in 24 hours or so. This dust is actually coming from your home heating vents, taking consideration that your windows are close so dust is not always entering from the outside.

Some people think by getting their heating ducts cleaned will stop the dust, well it will a little, but does not stop it completely as it is coming from the outside into your ducting, then gets blown throughout your home. There is no maintenance for these filters, you simply replace them every year or two and your good to go once again and the best part is they are not very expensive. How To Repair Cracks In Concrete Floors

When a good concrete floor goes bad it can happen in many ways, as in developing small or large cracks, pitting or becoming uneven, but there is an easy fix. The causes of these cracks vary and usually have something to do with the original mixture of concrete or a shifting surface below the concrete.

It is easy to fix the small cracks in concrete with a crack sealer in a ready to mix material that you just trowel in place. It will come in either a caulk-like form or a liquid form, use the liquid form on floors and pads and the caulk-like form on the walls.

Repairing Small Cracks

  1. Clean out the crack with a wire brush to remove dirt and loose stones. Then wash the crack with a concrete cleaner.
  2. Let the surface dry completely. If the crack is deep and it’s on the floor fill it partially with sand leaving an opening 1/4 – 1/2 inch deep. Then pour in the crack sealer until it forms a layer 1/4 inch deep, let dry over night and then apply another layer, repeat until surface is flush with the floor. (if using caulk, smooth with a putty knife)

Repairing Large Cracks

  1. Prep floor the same as for small cracks.
  2. On crack about 1/2 inch deep trowel in some vinyl concrete patch mixed according to the direction on bag or pail. Trowel a 1/4 layer into the crack and if more layers are needed, let patch dry for several days before applying another layer. Trowel the final layer flush with the surface and smooth.

Material for concrete patch repair is readily available at place as Home Hardware, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and so on. This is definitely something you yourself can do quit easily, it’s a simple home fix as long as the crack is not to large.

The Right Way To Paint Walls

Preparation takes longer than the actual painting time, but it must be done and done correctly if you want the right way to paint walls. Taking the time to properly prepare the surface will make all the difference in the final results.

Paint covers discolorations, but does not cover surface flaws. Paint covers the small bumps, nicks, dents and cracks, but it will not make the blemishes go away, you must do that. Always buy the best paint, rollers, and brushes. Cheap paint will turn powdery after a couple of years. Cheap paint rollers and paint brushes, mar the surface by leaving fuzz and bristles behind.

Protect all surfaces you are not going to paint. Protect your floors, trim, woodwork, and furnishings. Failing to do so could be a major problem.

Clean the surface you are painting. Wipe down the walls or trim with trisodium phosphate or a phosphate free wall cleaner substitute. Then rinse the wall a sponge and clean water until the water runs clean, let the surface dry. Now you look for every repair or imperfection you can find to fix.

Caulk the cracks. Fill all exterior cracks with paintable caulk, between walls and moldings, run caulk down the corners if they are cracked, then smooth the caulk with a wet finger. This will give you a smooth transition between surfaces.

Glazier’s Putty. Glazer’s compound is a putty that sticks instantly and is used for filling exterior nail holes and dries very quickly.

Time to prime the surface. Applying a primer sealer keeps any underlying stains from eventually bleeding through. Primer forms a molecular bond between the paint and the wall.

Sanding between coats of paint. Sand the wall or really just quickly wipe the wall between each coat of paint with 120 grit sandpaper, then brush off the dust with a towel or old paint brush. A sanded wall when finished feels velvet smooth to the touch, an un-sanded wall feels slightly bumpy.

The actual painting of the walls is the easy part, just make sure you always end in an up and down motion if you can. You now know the correct way how to paint walls. All products can be found at places such as Home Depot, Home Hardware, Lowe’s etc.
